Time Capsules for Our Grandchildren

City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Project with Temple Contemporary

Commissioned through the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Time Capsules for our Grandchildren was created with the Southwark Middle School students who made individual time capsules for their future grandchildren. The students took photos of their neighborhoods, wrote letters to their grandchildren, created audio, and gathered ephemera, all of which were placed inside airtight time capsule containers.  The time capsules were buried at Temple Contemporary, Tyler School of Art Gallery, on June 6, 2013, in a burial celebration. A decree was signed by all involved, stating intentions for the unearthing by their grandchildren in fifty years.
