This version of It Would Look Like… was commissioned by the Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, New York, for the exhibition I the Burbs!. For It Would Look Like… I wrote and anonymously distributed statements to Latin American Hispanic immigrants living in Westchester County. The statements included: “If I had a photograph of a place here in the suburbs that reminds me of my home country it would look like” or “If I had a photograph of a place in the suburbs that makes me feel uncomfortable it would look like....” I used the immigrants’ written responses to these statements as a guide to select 16 images from my archive. This method of selection enabled me to carefully edit my photographs, and view them in a new light. In turn, my process enabled the Latin American immigrants to share their vision of life in the suburbs.

My and the Latin American immigrant’s views democratically exist together and address issues pertaining to home, community, memory, and acceptance. People who partook in this project are from Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Peru.
